Summer Camp 2009 Schedule
Let’s Get Cooking
June 15-26
We have the recipe for a sweet start to this summer’s schedule! We will get cooking with lessons on nutrition, learning about the basic food groups and how to choose from them to make a healthy meal. The children will learn where our food comes from (from the grocery store and beyond). We will work in our vegetable garden harvesting herbs and veggies to taste and cook with.
Once Upon A Time
June 29-July 10
During this session we will make our favorite stories come to life through plays, puppet shows and games. The children will strengthen listening skills through games that help them isolate and identify different sounds around them, rhyming games and the silence game. The children will engage in story telling and puppet making activities bringing stories, poems and nursery rhymes to life.
*Note: we will be closed on July 3 in observance of Independence Day
This Magical World
July 13-24
We will look at the “magic” of science. Science can answer magical questions, such as “why does my shadow leap and grow one moment and then disappear altogether another?” “Why are some objects magnetic and other objects not?” “Can animals really change from one kind of creature into another?” We will explore these ideas as well as others through hands on inquiry-based experiences designed to aid the child in discovering the magic of our world.
South of the Border
July 27-August 7
We will spend this session learning a bit about our neighbors to the south. Learning about the art, music, language and culture of Mexico, the children will cook authentic Mexican dishes, create a mosaic art piece, learn a traditional Mexican dance, and speak Spanish. The children will have a great time creating and filling their own pinatas for our final celebration of this session.
The topics we focus on in each session are a part of the daily life of a Montessori classroom. We are choosing to highlight them individually during our summer camp. The other materials that are a traditional part of a Montessori class will also be available to your child to learn and explore during the time they spend with us this summer.
